Plant Raspberry plants in a trench. The roots are odd shaped and will be more comfortable in a trench. Cover the roots with a little soil. Just enough so they are not exposed to the air. Keep moist but not overly wet until the roots go deeper in to the soil.
New growth comes from the roots not the branches. New growth will not have the ability to plow threw inches of soil. Now keep the roots moist till new growth takes off. The key is plant shallow keep moist.
